Moss Landing homicide suspect sentenced to 50 years in prison

UPDATE 6/18/18 10:30 AM: The Monterey County District Attorney announced on Monday that Jose Estrada has been sentenced to 50 years to life in state prison.

He was found guilty of first degree murder in the death of Alejandro Reyes and showing a gun in the presence of police.

The murder happened on February 15, 2017 as a result of a dispute over property manager duties.

UPDATE: 2/16/17 8:10 AM: The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office identified the man arrested in Moss Landing Wednesday as 38-year-old Jose Quezada Estrada. The information corrects the suspect’s name as shown in previous stories.

UPDATE: 2/15/17 5:30 PM: A homicide investigation is underway in Moss Landing.

Police got a call around 10 Wednesday morning reporting a disturbance in the usually peaceful area. When they got there they determined that the scene was in fact a homicide.

While police were investigating the scene they were able to locate and arrest this suspect. Monterey County Sheriffs Office say his name is Jesus Jose Queseda and is in his mid-20s.

His arrest came after he locked himself in a neighbor’s house for some time.

A SWAT team was sent but he did surrender peacefully before they reached the scene. Work is still being done to determine what led to the disturbance that resulted in the homicide as well as the relationship between the suspect and the victim, a man. No other details are available yet.

“My understanding is that the suspect and the victim did live in this area, not necessarily in the same house but they did live in this area” said Commander John Thornburg with the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office. “We have at least one person who saw something and we will be interviewing that person.”

Monterey County Sheriffs Office will also be interviewing other residents in the area who may have seen or heard anything.

Police say that the cause of death will be officially determined by a pathologist but for now, it looks like blunt force trauma.

UPDATE: 2/15/2017 2:56 p.m.: According to Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, a man was arrested in Moss Landing during a homicide investigation. He has been identified as Jesus Jose Queseda in his mid-20’s.

Deputies said the victim was a man and possibly died of blunt force trauma.
