Juveniles arrested after hit-and-run and fiery crash in Santa Cruz County

The California Highway Patrol arrested five juveniles after a hit-and-run and fiery crash in Santa Cruz County.

The CHP said officers found a man who had just been struck by a hit-and-run driver while driving his 1998 GMC pickup on Larkin Valley Road at Old Adobe Road Wednesday afternoon.

The man was able to give officers the description of the suspect vehicle and license plate number.

A short time later, CHP officers found the suspect vehicle on fire on Larkin Valley Road near Larkin View.

The suspect vehicle, a 2014 Chevrolet Sonic, had been reported stolen in Watsonville that day.

The CHP said the people inside the vehicle had taken off on foot.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire and Cal Fire helped keep the brush fire from growing.

Crews also got help from residents who used tractors to cut grass as the flames spread.

After searching the area, CHP officers later took five juveniles into custody.
