Hazardous material under investigation in Santa Cruz

UPDATE 6/13/18 8:11 p.m.: Santa Cruz Police said people are allowed to return home and there is no threat to the public as they continue investigating hazardous materials.

According to police, the situation on Pacific Avenue is clear. No one has been hurt and the materials are contained.

The investigation is ongoing.

Santa Cruz Police are asking people to avoid the downtown area because of a hazardous material incident.

According to police, the police department and fire department are investigating a hazardous material at 290 Pacific Avenue.

People in the area have been told to leave, but police say there is no reason to fear any damage to the surrounding area.
