Mountain lion sighting in Gilroy neighborhood
A mountain lion was spotted roaming a Gilroy neighborhood over the weekend.
The Gilroy Police Department said the mountain lion was seen in the Welburn Avenue and Rancho Real area around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Officers responded but were not able to find the mountain lion.
“Mountain lions are quiet, solitary and elusive, and typically avoid people by nature,” said Gilroy PD. “However, as human population expands into mountain lion habitat, more frequent sightings may occur and human/mountain lion encounters may increase.”
The department wants to remind the public to be aware of their surroundings when going for a walk.
