Four days of repairs along HWY. 1 south of Carmel Highlands set to begin Monday

If you drive on Highway 1 near Carmel you’ve probably encountered delays from the climbing lane project near the crossroads. And now — starting Monday — you can expect new roadwork south of there near the Carmel Highlands.

Caltrans says they always try to find the best time to do repairs, but in highly traveled areas like the route to big sur that can be hard. The big thing now is getting it done before the summer rush and when the conditions are right.

“It’s also important to note that now that temperatures are warmer, that allows us to really get in and perform this necessary highway maintenance,” said Caltrans PIO Jim Shivers.

Motorists can expect one-way reversing traffic control from 8 am until 4 pm in the following locations:

Southbound Hwy. 1 at Monastery Beach, south of Carmel on Monday, June 11 and Tuesday, June 12. Southbound Hwy. 1 at Otter Cove, south of Carmel Highlands on Wednesday, June 13. Southbound Hwy. 1 at Sobranes, south of Carmel Highlands on Thursday, June 14.

Caltrans estimates delays to be around ten minutes.
