Update: Sheriff’s say person drove off Big Sur cliff intentionally

UPDATE: 6/7/2018 9:54 a.m. One person is dead following a single vehicle crash near Hurricane Point in Big Sur.

The California Highway Patrol said a car went over the cliff near mile marker 58 around 7:24 p.m. Wednesday and plunged hundreds of feet to the rocks below.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office told KION the death has been deemed a suicide.

The victim’s body was recovered at the scene.

The car had not yet been removed by early Thursday morning.
