Excitement building over Transformers spin-off filmed at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk
Santa Cruz will appear on the big screen once again for the latest film installment based on a popular toy franchise.
The trailer for the new movie called “Bumblebee” was just released and unlike past Transformer movies, this one focuses on the character Bumblebee.
Officials KION spoke with are keeping most of the information regarding the movie a secret until it comes out, but KION does know it was filmed at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.
The crew filmed for three days in September bringing in over half a million dollars to local hotels. It also did its part supporting the Santa Cruz County economy with the film employing more than 100 local crew members and about 500 extras.
“You know those opportunities are few and far between, but when we do get them it’s just another way for us to promote the destination and to in this case show off Santa Cruz County to a worldwide audience,” said Christina Glynn, Film Commissioner with Visit Santa Cruz.
Luke Karbe was on a field trip at the boardwalk on Wednesday. He has been a fan of the Transformer movies since the beginning and couldn’t be happier about where it was shot.
“Because just such an amazing company decided to make a decision. They could have picked anywhere else, any other location, and they decided to choose just here in our litte hearts,” said San Jose resident Luke Karbe.
The movie is being released in December.
