ELECTION DAY: Voters head to the polls across the Central Coast
It is Primary Election Day and voters weighed in on several races across the state and the Central Coast.
Polls closed at 8 p.m. and the results will start coming in at 8:30 p.m.
There are several big races including the race to replace Governor Jerry Brown. The top six polling candidates include four democrats and two republicans.
The top two finishers regardless of party affiliation will move on to the general election in November.
The top two system also applies to the U.S. Senate race, U.S. Representatives, Lt. Governor, Secretary of State, Controller, Treasurer, Attorney General, Insurance Commissioner, Board of Equalization, State Senator and State Assembly.
The other big local races to watch include the contentious race for Monterey County Sheriff between incumbent Steve Bernal and his opponent Scott Davis.
In this non-partisan race, the candidate who receives more than 50 percent of the vote will win.
There are also several measures on the ballot for districts across the Central Coast.
