Are you voting today? If so, here’s some tips to save you time at the polls
“Here in Monterey County we have close to 70% of the voters voting by mail,” said Monterey County Registrar Claudio Valenzuela.
Everyone else will head to the polls Tuesday to cast their ballot in the 2018 Primary Election. There are two new polling locations this year in Monterey County.
“First United Methodist Church in Pacific Grove, that’s a new polling place for us. The other is the First Baptist Church here in Salinas,” said Valenzuela.
Because of the ballot length, election officials recommend being prepared in order to limit your time spent at the polls.
“They can use the sample ballot in the voter guide to mark their preferences and then just go to the polling place and vote because it’s a long ballot. We want them to read and do the research ahead of time,” said Valenzuela.
Early results are expected around 8:00 p.m.
“And then from then on, we count until we finish. We don’t know exactly how much time. It’s dependent on the turnout how long we’re going to stay here,” said Valenzuela.
It’s important that you find your correct polling place, which is determined by where you live. You can find your polling place here.
