Man attempts to kidnap woman in Watsonville

A man is still on the loose after officials say he tried to kidnap a woman in Watsonville.

The authorities I spoke with say they need the public’s help in finding a man who attempted a brazen crime in broad daylight.

On Saturday Afternoon around four o’clock, a 27-year old woman was standing near the back of her car at Pinto Lake County Park after attending a family party. She says a man who fits this sketch grabbed her from behind, covered her mouth, and tried to pull her away. She was able to break free after a struggle and scream, which caused the man to run away.

“I mean, this was broad daylight with other people around so it’s pretty brazen, but at the same time, not common, so we don’t know what this person, what their intentions were. We’re happy that the lady was able to fight him off and it could have turned out a different way had she not been so brave,” said Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Sgt. Brian Cleveland.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his late 30’s to early 40’s, around six feet tall with a thin build and medium to dark complexion. At the time, he was wearing a black short-sleeved shirt with red and white lettering and black shorts, and left in a mid-90’s light blue, 2-door Honda Accord.

As mentioned, there aren’t many leads on who this could be, so if you know anything, please contact the Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Office.
