Bear captured in Southern California neighborhood
A bear that had been roaming around the San Dimas area Wednesday (5/30) night was spotted again Thursday morning (5/31) running through the streets of La Verne, California.
Video showed officers and onlookers near some trees the bear had run up. After the officers shot darts at him, the 4- to 5-hundred pound bear came down from the tree and started running through the neighborhood. As the tranquilizers took effect, the bear slowed from running to walking to eventually just passing out on the ground.
Officers secured the bear and plan to move him so when he wakes up he will be far away from La Verne.
California Department of Fish and Wildlife officials said it was not uncommon to see bears this time of the year.
A bear was also found in a Ventura neighborhood.
Police say the 250-pound male bear was spotted Wednesday afternoon in the city of Ventura.
The CA Fish and Wildlife Service was summoned and the bear was tranquilized before being taken to a wooded area north of the city.
Police posted photos of the sleeping bear on the department’s Facebook page.
