New NFL national anthem policy “unfortunate” says NAACP President and CEO

NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson and California Hawaii NAACP President Alice Huffman discuss the NFL’s new National Anthem policy with KION’s Aaron Groff. Both Johnson and Huffman disagree with the policy requiring players to stand for the anthem, or remain in the locker room, or face a fine. The fine will be directed towards the team.

Johnson says he has previously reached out to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, but has not received a response.

“For the NFL owners to be doing what they are doing, is something that we completely object to,” Johnson said.

This is part of a longer, extensive, interview with Johnson and Huffman. Also discussed was President Trump, the shooting of Stephon Clark and proposed “use of force” legislation, the arrest of two black men sitting in a Philadelphia Starbucks, Childish Gambino’s “This is America” music video, and the NAACP’s support of DACA. The full interview will be published Sunday.
