Tiny homes to house veterans in Marina

A Central Coast veterans group has a new idea they hope will get more homeless veterans off the streets.

The Veterans Transition Center is partnering with MPC design students to come up with site plans for a tiny house village on their property in Marina.

On Wednesday, the students presented their ideas for what the village could look like.

The VTC says they don’t have enough room to house all of the veterans who need it. The Executive Director of the Veterans Transition Center said they would like to try this idea out on a limited scale at first.

“We’d love for it to be a reality at the end of this year. The need is there, the capacity is there. We simply need to get partners and make this happen on vtc property,” said Kurt Schake, VTC Executive Director.

Some design elements of the tiny houses included solar paneling, full range electric appliances and patios.

One student’s plan suggested one tiny house could cost as little as $19,000.
