CSU system working to graduate more students in 4 years

What is meant to be a four year program, has a majority of students in California taking longer.

In 2017 only 23% of graduates in the Cal State University system did it in four years. Through the “Graduation Initiative” CSU is trying to increase graduation rates.

The goal is to raise the 4-year graduates to 40% by 2025.

Cal State Monterey Bay is above the average graduating 30% of first time freshman in 4 years.

Some students KION spoke with today say they didn’t mind taking the longer route, but they are happy to be done.

“I have been waiting for this moment for a long time, about eight years I’m a little bit all there at the graduate,” says Kaylee Mullaly.

Tatiana Kimbo says, ” I did it in about five, I took that extra year, but it was worth it.”
