King City ready for Amgen Tour of California
Tuesday, one of the biggest cycling events in North America will travel throughout the Central Coast. Professional cyclists from around the world will kick off leg three of the Amgen Tour of California.
Thousands of spectators are expected to line the streets of King City’s Downtown Tuesday when the race kicks off Many compare the Amgen Tour of California to the big one in Europe we all know, calling it “the Tour de France of North America.” The third leg of the race will find it’s 17 racing teams beginning in downtown King City, traveling south along highway 101 before heading east at San Lucas. They’ll circle around back to King City, then north, making their way up through Carmel Valley and finally finish with a few laps around Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca. King City Mayor Mike LeBarre believes tomorrow’s event will teach the area’s youth some valuable lessons.
“The world is a big place, and to dream big, and if you’re willing to work hard and have that drive and focus, you can achieve anything that you want. And that’s what these racers show. They’re putting in the time and work to achieve their goals. It’s an amazing thing, and we want our kids to see that
they can do whatever they want,” said King City Mayor Mike LeBarre.
Tomorrow’s leg of the Amgen Tour of California will kick off at 10:20 with pre-ceremonies beginning at ten in downtown King City. but the community events will begin Tuesday at 8:30, with around 3,000 residents and over a thousand students expected to come out and celebrate their city.
