Castroville burglary suspect injures deputy with piece of metal during chase
A burglary suspect out of Castroville threw a piece of metal at a deputy in an attempt to get away.
According to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a reported burglary on Dolan Road on May 8. Surveillance video led them to burglary suspect, Oscar Chavez.
“The same deputies that took this call had contacted him the day before in Castroville, however he called himself Ivan that day,” said the sheriff’s office.
Deputies returned to the area where they saw Chavez the day before but he ran when they arrived.
During the chase Chavez threw a piece of metal and injured one of the deputies.
Chavez and his accomplice Araceli Lopez were arrested for the burglary.
The items stolen in this case were found on Del Monte Avenue and returned to the owner.
Chavez had a few outstanding warrants for his arrest. Both he and Lopez were booked into the Monterey County Jail.
