Suspected drunk driver going 90 mph hits parked school bus full of students in Gilroy

A suspected drunk driver was going 90 mph when he hit a parked school bus in Gilroy.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at Monterey and Rucker Avenue around 3:20 p.m. Thursday.

Witnesses told CHP that the driver of a maroon Ford Expedition lost control crossed over the double yellow lines and struck a Gilroy Unified School District bus head on.

The Ford overturned trapping the 25-year-old male driver and female passenger inside.

The bus had 43 passengers on board and CHP told KION some students were about to exit the bus at the time of the collision.

Two students suffered minor injuries. One complained of shoulder and chest pain and was taken to the hospital. The other has some scraped to the elbow.

The passenger in the Ford had visible injuries to her shoulder but refused medical attention.

The driver of the Ford was placed under arrest for suspicion of drunk driving.
