New crosswalk unveiled along State Route 183 in Castroville

Castroville unveiled a new crosswalk to help keep people safe.

Monterey District Supervisor John Phillips led the project along with Caltrans and the Monterey County Commission on Disabilities.

The crosswalk is located along State Route 183 where it intersects with Crane Street.

“The community really came behind and really expressed their desire when I had community meetings how important this was to the safety of their people,” said Supervisor John Phillips.

“Those of us on the commission are really pleased to see that it will give access and safety to those persons with disabilities living in this community,” Susan Osorio Chair of the Monterey County Commission on Disabilities.

Community leaders are hoping the crosswalk makes the road more accessible for the elderly and those with disabilities.

Along with the crosswalk, there are flashing lights to get the attention of drivers who may not see pedestrians.
