Work on Salinas River Bridge enters final stretch
After years of construction, work on the $18-million dollar Salinas River Bridge Widening Project is entering it’s final stretch –but not before a few more lane closures.
According to Caltrans, drivers will experience alternating lane closures Monday through Friday on Eastbound Highway 68 between the Reservation Road and Hunter Lane for bridge work and a maintenance chip seal operation.
“A maintenance chip seal is essentially a layer of asphalt and these really small pieces of rock are laid on top of that and then compressed with a roller into the pavement,” said Caltrans PIO Jim Shivers.
The work will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Expect some slowdowns. The Salinas Bridge Widening Project began back in April of 2016 and was supposed to be completed this past winter, however that date has been pushed back to Summer 2018.
