Science March 2018
Science advocates in Santa Cruz participated in an annual March for Science on Saturday. The main march took place in Washington D-C on April 14th, but in Santa Cruz organizers decided to align the walk with Earth Day.
The march started around 10 a.m. at City Hall and ended at San Lorenzo Park where festivities were already underway for the Earth Day celebration. The two events meshing seamlessly, with many of the people there uniting over their desire to advocate for the future of both the environment and society as a whole.
“Given our values we need to understand what the facts, and science is a technique for coming to agreement on what’s what. Whether it’s seatbelt in a car or global warming,” said Miguel Aznar who walked in March for Science.
Climate scientists have come under heavy attack by global warming deniers in recent years, including those currently in the White House. So having the March for Science coincide with Earth day seems to be a solidarity demonstration between the two groups.
