Proceeds from plant sale go directly to Spay-Neuter efforts in Salinas

Earth Day is just around the corner, and this year, you can celebrate by planting flowers and helping out Salinas Animal Services.

“The whole parking lot will be an explosion of color,” said Salinas Animal Services Manager Kathy Prew.

The sale is called ‘Plants for Paws’ and it will happen Saturday at the City of Salinas Animal Shelter. Sakata Seed generously donates beautiful flowers to the shelter for them then to sell at a fraction of the price. All the money raised goes straight back into the shelter to help area dogs and cats.

“That money that is generated from this sale goes to our spay/neuter efforts throughout the year. Cats, dogs, puppies, kittens that we are assisting the public with spay and neuter, we can use that money that is raised,” said Kathy Prew.

Salinas Animal Services takes in abused, abandoned, and neglected animals from the City of Salinas, and works to get them adopted. They rely heavily on donations and volunteers, and this plant sale is an incredibly important fundraiser for them.
