A discussion on gun violence will be held in Marina Wednesday night
There will be a panel discussion on gun violence in Marina tonight. It’s the third part of MCFL’s “Civil Discourse at the Library” series. The two previous discussions were on the ‘me too campaign’, and ‘homelessness.’
“We see people from all walks of life and so we thought why not bring them together and sit down and talk,” said MCFL’s Library Director, Jayanti Addleman.
Tonight both sides will be represented in the free event, those for and against gun control. Monterey County Free Libraries chose the topic on gun violence before the mass shooting in Florida, which has only made the debate even more polarizing. Library Director, Jayanti Addleman says people often listen to radio or tv shows that only bolster their viewpoint. This series, like the library, pushes you beyond your comfort zone.
“The idea is that we are not going to find a solution obviously in just a couple of hours, but to just get people leaving thinking about the other sides viewpoint,” said Addleman.
Addelman says they have gotten great feedback from the community, as many like the outlet to freely discuss hot topics. The next series will be on gender identity June 21st.
