Salinas Community Honors the Late Selena
Kids, Parents and Friends gathered at Natividad Creek Park in Salinas to celebrate Musician and Icon Selena Quintanilla.
The free event celebrates the legacy of the Grammy Award-winning Tejano music superstar, who was murdered in 1995 at 23 years old. Songs like “Como La Flor” were still popular with the crowd.
“Now a days there’s different types of music going on, but definitively she’s one of the great ones that I personally enjoy. She would dance out there, she got everybody’s attention so personally she’s an idol for me,” said Victoria Madriz, attendee at the Natividad Creek Park celebration.
Local talent belted out their favorite lyrics, and there were even some impersonators who showed up as Selena look-a-likes. The event was put on to commemorate here music, and also to honor her birthday which is on Monday. Selena died only weeks before her 24th Birthday and would be turning 47 on Monday.
