Update: Woman airlifted to hospital after being hit by car in Watsonville
The Watsonville Police Department is investigating a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash that left one woman in critical condition.
According to WPD, the accident occurred near Airport Boulevard & Holm Road around 8 a.m. Wednesday. A woman in her twenties was walking in the crosswalk when she was hit by a car.
“The driver of the vehicle was using his cell phone for navigation purposes and did not see the pedestrian crossing Airport Blvd until the collision occurred,” said Sgt. Donny Thul.
WPD arrested the male driver after finding a gun in his car.
The female victim was airlifted to a trauma center.
Police said drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this case.
“The Watsonville Police Department wants to remind the public to pay attention and yield the right of way to pedestrians crossing the street, as well as remind pedestrians to remain vigilant and make sure to watch cars on the street when crossing.”
