Months of traffic delays expected along General Jim Moore BLVD.
Construction continues to run smooth for the the massive water reuse project, which will provide a new source of water from Marina to the Monterey Peninsula. Road work will begin this week along General Jim Moore Boulevard — the most heavily trafficked part of the project.
This construction will require an alternate closure of lanes on General Jim Moore Boulevard between Lightfighter Drive and Normandy Road as they lay pipe. This will be the second construction crew working on this one project . Another crew is working near Reservation Road in Marina.
“It’s the most direct route to where they want to do the groundwater replenishment. They already have some aquifer supply and recovery wells along General Jim Moore that they pump Carmel River up to. So they will be pumping water from the North to the same area for ground water replenishment.
This project is 15 years in the making and will provide a new source of water to the Monterey Peninsula by reusing water that we have, thus stretching our water supply. It will reduce pumping in the Salinas Valley groundwater basin, and on the peninsula it will help with the over withdraws from the Carmel River.
