Salinas substitute teacher under investigation for suspected child abuse

A substitute elementary school teacher in Salinas has been removed from his classroom after a report suspected he abused a student.

Salinas City Elementary School District would not release the Kamman School teacher’s name.

District Superintendent Martha Martinez said, “Salinas City Elementary School District does not tolerate physical contact by its staff with students for disciplinary reasons or out of anger or frustration. In addition, a report of child abuse has been made to the proper law enforcement authorities.”

Henry F. Kammann Elementary received a report of “inappropriate workplace conduct” with a male teacher on March 21.

The substitute teacher has been relieved of his duties until the investigation is completed.

The district provided students with an opportunity to talk about the incident with site administration and said additional support staff will be available if needed.
