Mazda Raceway to be re-named come April 1st
The course known to many as Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will now have a new name.
The County of Monterey and WeatherTech have come to terms on a multiyear naming rights agreement at the motorsports and entertainment facility located at the County-owned Laguna Seca Recreation Area. Beginning next month, the course will be known as WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
The track was built in 1957. Originally known as Laguna Seca Raceway, the track held a naming rights agreement with automaker Mazda for the past 17 years that ends on March 31st.
Officials say Laguna Seca has long been an economic engine for the Central Coast and it continues to operate without the benefit of public funds.
WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca’s major event season features the Sea Otter Classic, April 19-22; Ferrari Challenge, May 4-6; AMGEN Tour of California Men’s Stage 3 Finish, May 15; Spring Classic Showcasing Nitro Revival, May 19-20; MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship GEICO Motorcycle U.S. Round featuring MotoAmerica Championship of Monterey, June 22-24; Monterey Pre-Reunion, August 18-19; Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, August 23-26; Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix featuring AMERICA’S TIRE 250, September 6-9; Porsche Rennsport Reunion VI, Sept. 27-30; and Pirelli World Challenge/SRO Intercontinental GT Challenge, October 26-28.
