Community market in Carmel stays afloat after ownership change

Today we learned some great news about a local business that had a bleak outlook for staying open.

Last month, Cornucopia Community Market in Carmel was told by their corporate owners that they had a week to sell the store or else it would be abandoned for good. Today we found out a San Luis Obispo couple became increasingly interested and decided to buy the small, organic market that’s been in business for nearly 40 years! Long-time employees are thrilled.

“This is a small community and word got out and it went all the way down to San Luis Obispo. And we are so thankful because over the past month, it’s been an emotional and mental roller coaster for everyone about the store, but everyone gets to stay at Cornucopia,” said Store Manager Carol Litz.

The initial deal happened a few days after the deadline to sell, but the store’s former owner, the Neutraceutical Corporation, gave some more time after a potential buyer showed interest. The store will be closed on Tuesday and possibly Wednesday until the ownership change officially takes place on Thursday.
