The Global Wave Conference hits the Central Coast
Big moves being made in Santa Cruz to tackle the ocean’s most challenging issues.
The fifth annual global wave conference is being hosted in the area for the first time.
The event is put on by the Save the Waves coalition and the Surf Rider Foundation. It lasts through Wednesday and features numerous speakers from all over the world…. From pro surfers to marine biologists. The purpose is to unite professionals in the surf, conservation and technology worlds… In hopes of conserving the oceans. One of the speakers, Cliff Kapono says the event is more important than people realize.
“I think one of the more insightful topics have been on this idea of how to we recognize the idea that by taking care of nature we are ultimately taking care of ourselves. And I know that seems selfish but I think that’s going to motivate a lot of people to try to protect their natural surrounding and be better stewards if they know ultimately if you pollute nature your polluting yourself.” – Cliff Kapono // Grad Student, university of California San Diego
The Global Wave Conference is the world’s largest gathering of surf and conservation organizations.so far, the event has brought in close to 250 people.
