Salinas man sentenced to 175-years in prison for multiple sexual assaults

UPDATE: 3/2/2018 1:38 p.m. A Salinas man has been sentenced to 175-years-to-life for kidnappings and raping a woman back in April of last year.

Jimmy Alexander was in the Salinas area known as Chinatown when he jumped into a woman’s car and ordered her to drive away. The two drove to several different locations over an 8 hour period and the victim was sexually assaulted.

“Alexander had been found guilty by a jury on November 7, 2017 of multiple counts of sexual assault including rape, sodomy and oral copulation all by force. He was also convicted of kidnapping and robbery.”

Alexander was sentenced to seven life terms for multiple sexual assaults.

A Salinas man has been found guilty of multiple counts of sexual assault including rape, sodomy and oral copulation by force.

According to the Monterey County District Attorney, the incident occurred on April 15 and 16 of 2017. A woman was in the Chinatown area of Salinas when the defendant, Jimmy Alexander got into her car and ordered her to drive away. Alexander remained in the woman’s car for eight hours and sexually assaulted her.

The DA’s Office said the case involved surveillance video showing the woman walking in and out of a convenience store and not running away.

“Dr. Mindy Mechanic, an expert on trauma and victim behavior testified that victims often behave in ways that are counter intuitive to how we expect them to behave,” officials said.

The trial lasted six days. A sentencing date has not yet been set. Alexander was also convicted of kidnapping and robbery.
