Bicyclist hit by car, killed in San Benito County

A 65-year-old man was hit by a car and killed Monday while riding a bike in San Benito County.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the bicyclist was riding north on Highway 25 near Cienega Road when the driver of a 2001 Toyota hit him.

CHP said the bicyclist was traveling directly in front of the Toyota. “Due to unsafe speed” the Toyota collided with the bike.

“This impact caused party-2 (bicyclist) to be ejected from the bicycle before colliding with the asphalt roadway,” said CHP.

The driver of the Toyota has been identified as 40-year-old Michael Cleveland of San Lorenzo.

Investigators said it does not appear alcohol or drugs played a factor in the fatal collision.
