Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s deputies visit schools following Florida shooting

Following the tragic shooting deaths of 17 students at a Florida high school, Thursday morning, deputies with the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office visited schools in the county to assure student safety.

“We want to assure our community that safety at our local schools is very important to us and we will continue to provide a safe environment for our children, teachers, and parents,” said SCCSO.

The Sheriff’s Office said it’s not out of the ordinary for deputies to visit schools during drop off and pick up times.

The Sheriff’s Office has school resource officers at San Lorenzo Valley High School, Soquel High School, and Aptos High School.

On Wednesday the Sheriff’s Office held a school lockdown training at Good Sheppard School in Live Oak.

“Schools in the unincorporated area of Santa Cruz County are offered this training free of charge by the Sheriff’s Office on a regular basis.”
