Tahoe ski resort aims for 100 percent renewable energy
One of the largest ski resorts at Lake Tahoe has entered into a collaborative agreement with an area utility to identify energy resources to meet its goal of using 100 percent renewable, clean energy as soon as the end of the year.
Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows announced the deal Wednesday with the California-based Liberty Utilities.
Greg Sorensen, president of the utility’s west region, says they’re working with resort leadership to develop new renewable energy generation, storage and efficiency protects to benefit resort and surrounding area south of Truckee, California.
He says they’re targeting development of new solar energy.
Resort President Andy Wirth says Wednesday’s announcement demonstrates that moving to all renewable energy “in the present tense – not a generation from now” is not only possible, it’s “entirely doable.”
Squaw Valley hosted the 1960 Winter Olympics.
