ICE set to track license plates
Immigrations and Custom Enforcement has partnered with a Bay Area company to access a nationwide license plate recognition database, according to tech website The Verge.
“The system gives the agency access to billions of license plate records and new powers of real-time location tracking, raising significant concerns from civil libertarians,” writes Russell Brandom in an exclusive report.
The company name is Vigilant Solutions. It calls its products “an investigative platform” to help law enforcement develop leads and solve crimes faster.
The Livermore based company calls its solution, “the most comprehensive advanced suite of license plate recognition (LPR), facial recognition, analytics and commercial data available to improve safety for officers and communities.”
