SPCA: Salinas home center of animal cruelty case, Husky & pups rescued
UPDATE: 1/24/2018 4:02 p.m. The mother of several puppies rescued by the SPCA for Monterey County has been reunited with her babies.
According to the SPCA, the owner of the Husky turned her dog in after realizing she made a “mistake.”
The SPCA for Monterey County had been investigating the owner’s Salinas home which was the center of an animal cruelty case. During the investigation officers found the Husky mother starved, and injured with eight newborn puppies.
Officers were able to rescue the puppies but on Tuesday the dog owner took off with the 2-year-old Husky.
The SPCA for Monterey County said the Husky and her pups are recovering together and should be adoptable in the coming months.

The SPCA for Monterey County is searching for a starving, injured husky mix who had puppies just three days ago.
The owner of the husky took off with the new mom and an injured terrier when SPCA officers tried to convince the owner to surrender the neglected dogs.
“Officers saw the terrier was in decent condition but the husky was skeletal, limping on her left front leg and nursing a litter of eight newborn puppies,” said SPCA for Monterey County.
On Tuesday, when SPCA officers investigated the home in the 600 block of Dallas Avenue they found the puppies sleeping on a cold, wet carpet lying under a camper shell.
“The house and the yard was hoarded with belongings piled up everywhere making the conditions dangerous for the dogs including sharp objects, hazardous chemicals and trash scattered all over,” said the SPCA.
Officers rescued the puppies and are now trying to locate the owner and the dogs. SPCA officials said the dog is in need of veterinary treatment. The puppies are receiving 24-hour care by the SPCA.
The mother dog is described as a Husky/Akita mix, about two years old, white, brown and gray in color, very skinny, and limping on the left front paw.
The SPCA said reuniting the puppies with their mother is the best chance of survival for all of them.

The owner could be charged with the following: Permitting Animals to go Without Veterinary Care, Animal Cruelty, Deprivation of Food, Water and Shelter, and Abandonment.
