Police investigating a shooting near Salinas park
Salinas Police are investigating shooting near Closter Park at Beech and Kimmel Streets after a ShotSpotter activation.
When officers arrived on scene they found six shell casings at the intersection. Officers were told that the two teens who were shot at ran across the park toward the 1200 block of Bellhaven.
Officers found them in the backyard of a residence. They were 18 and 15-years-old. Both are gang members.
Neither had been struck by gunfire. Police say the shooter got out of a black colored pickup truck that pulled up and fired the six rounds toward the two.
The 18-year-old was arrested and booked into county jail for a December 2017 stolen vehicle warrant. The 15-year-old was arrested for violating gang term probation by associating with a known gang member. He was booked into juvenile hall.
No one in the park was hit by the gunfire, though a bullet did hit a parked vehicle parked near Bellhaven and Towt Street.
The names of the two teens are not being released as they are listed as victims in the attempted murder investigation.
