Caught on Camera: Dog saved from burning building

Dramatic video shows Atlanta emergency services resuscitating and rescuing a dog from a burning apartment in the city’s Westside Zone 1, earlier in January.

The fire brigade was called to a blaze in the abandoned home during the early hours of Sunday January 8th.

Video from Officer Robert Winkler’s body camera shows the moment that the crew found the dog in the building’s smoking rubble.

He and Officer Austin Denninger pulled the dog to safety, where emergency services administered oxygen to the animal, now nicknamed “Smokey”.

After spending a night at a veterinary hospital, Smokey now awaits adoption and a new home. In a statement on its Facebook page, Atlanta Police Department praised the “compassion and love” that fire crews showed at the scene.
