19-year-old arrested for Salinas hit-and-run

UPDATE: Salinas police have arrested a 19-year-old man suspected of hitting a woman and driving away.

A 30-year-old woman was struck while crossing the crosswalk on Constitution and Manchester. She sustained multiple broken bones and a separated shoulder, but is in stable condition.

While investigating the scene, officers were approached by an individual who directed them to the 300 block of Calaveras Drive where the vehicle and driver were located. The driver of the suspect vehicle, was identified as 19-year-old Martin Frances Capulong.

He was arrested for felony hit and run and was found not to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, but indicated he fled because he was afraid. Capulong was transported to the Monterey County Jail and booked for Felony Hit and Run with Injury.

Salinas Police are investigating a hit-and-run incident on Constitution and Manchester.

Officers tell KION a 30-year-old female was in a crosswalk when a vehicle struck her. The woman sustained multiple broken bones and has been transported to Natividad Medical Center.

The preliminary investigation shows she was legally within the crosswalk and the driver struck her, and drove away.

Officials say a vehicle is stopped and a possible suspect is in custody.
