First-ever pot shop in Salinas set to open Friday

A new era begins in Salinas — and it’s not something John Steinbeck probably saw coming. The City’s first legal marijuana shop will be opening its doors at 10:00 a.m. Friday.

Attention, calling all passengers over the age of 21 that want to fly high.

“We wanted to have a theme that fit the location. Because of the airport and because of the color of cannabis, which is emerald. We came up with Emerald Skyway,” said Co-founder Lonna Blodgett.

Located directly across from the Salinas Airport at 1610 Moffett Street, Emerald Skyway will open their doors for both medicinal and recreational customers, so all aboard for the first time ever in Salinas.

“We’re going to have very unique flowers that people have never seen before. We’re going to have 300+ to 400+ cannabis products. We have clones that are going to be available and very highly specialized seeds that are also going to be available,” said Blodgett.

Salinas is one of the last Central Coast cities to get a pot shop, even ritzy Carmel has one.

“Salinas has been a city that has given very careful consideration to the ordinance and their application process. And that always take time and you cant just rush the rough these things,” said Blodgett.

*To buy recreational marijuana you need to be 21 or over and have a valid ID.
