Hollister man dies in three car crash on Highway 25

UPDATE: 1/18/2018 9:11 a.m. A Hollister man was killed in a three car accident on Highway 25 Friday.

The California Highway Patrol said the crash occurred when a woman in a 2016 Jeep Renegade failed to yield the right-of-way to a Peterbilt box truck. The Jeep struck the box truck as it attempted to make a left turn onto southbound Highway 25 near Bolsa Road in Hollister.

“As a result, the front of the Peterbilt box truck collided into the front of the Jeep Renegade. The impact caused the Peterbilt box truck to travel out of control in a north-westerly direction and into the southbound Highway 25 lane towards the Toyota Prius,” said CHP.

The front of the box truck collided head on with the Toyota Prius. The 57-year-old Hollister man in the Toyota Prius died of his injuries.

Graniterock took to Facebook and identified the driver of the Prius as one of their.

“We are in deep mourning here at Graniterock as we lost one of our beloved team members in a car accident on Friday. Efrain Moreno, a longtime heavy equipment operator, was killed on his way home from work when a truck swerved into his lane,” said Graniterock.

The Santa Cruz woman in the Jeep complained of pain but was not transported to the hospital.

The Hollister driver of the Peterbilt truck was taken to Hazel Hawkins Hospital.

A GoFundMe page has been created to help Efrain’s wife and three children cover the funeral cost: https://www.gofundme.com/efrainmoreno
