14-year-old killed in Salinas shooting identified
UPDATE: Salinas recorded its first murder of 2018 Wednesday night. The victim has been identified as 14-year-old Enrique Sosa. Sosa was a Salinas resident and student at Everett Alvarez High School.
Police say the boy was walking on Russell Road when he was confronted by at least two males in a dark SUV. Words were exchanged and shots were fired.
The boy was taken to Natividad Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.
The suspects were last seen driving eastbound on Russell Road toward San Juan Grade Road.

Police are investigating a shooting in North Salinas.
According to police, the juvenile was shot around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday on Russell Road.
ShotSpotter detected shots at the same time 911 calls were coming in.
The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
“What we know at this point is that the juvenile was walking eastbound on Russell Road, was approached by a vehicle,” said John Murray, Investigations Division Commander with the Salinas Police Department, “There was some words exchanged and then multiple shots fired.”
Police don’t have any suspect information and are still talking to witnesses.
Russell Road between North Main and Van Buren is expected to be closed for a few hours.
