Truck crashes and flips into Salinas home
First responders were called to Fairview Avenue in Salinas where a truck exited the highway and drove into a home.
According to Salinas Police, the accident occurred around 10 a.m. Wednesday when a 77-year-old man was driving northbound on Highway 101.The man was on his way to Natividad Medical Center when he started feeling dizzy and pulled off the freeway on Fairview. Instead of hitting the break the man hit the accelerator and lost consciousness.
“He ran through a stop sign, crossed both lanes of traffic on Fairview, drove up onto a lawn, hit a tree and crashed through a wooden fence and drove into the side of a garage causing major damage,” said Commander Mike Groves.
The truck ended up on its side and Salinas Fire Dpt. had to pull him from a back window.
The man suffered some cuts but otherwise will be ok. No alcohol or drugs are suspected. Police said a DMV re-examination has been started. Nobody else was injured in the crash.
