Are those pot sales taxable? There’s a video for that

If there was any question that the cultivation and sale of cannabis in California was serious business, a California government agency has just answered that with a new video series targeting cannabis business owners.

Along with the legalization of recreational marijuana sales on January 1st, two new cannabis taxes kicked in: a cultivation tax and an excise tax.

The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration has released a three-part video series that explains the tax responsibilities that come along with selling cannabis and cannabis related products in retail shops.

There’s also a tax help video for the cannabis cultivator or manufacturer, and one for distributors.

The videos explain how to register for a cannabis tax permit and how to calculate the proper tax rate. And according to one of the videos, yes, there is such a thing as a cannabis tax return.
