Driver caught in Boston flooding
Boston was slammed with an extreme dose of winter weather on Thursday (January 4) as heavy snow and a three-foot (0.9-meter) tidal surge flooded the area around Boston’s historic Long Wharf with icy seawater during high tide.
A bystander captured video of a driver trying to reverse a car out of the Boston Harbor that was surrounded by rushing floodwater and ice.
The unusual storm was powered by a rapid plunge in barometric pressure that some weather forecasters referred to as bombogenesis or a “bomb cyclone,” which brought high winds and swift, heavy snowfall.
The National Weather Service said the flooding tied a 40-year record.
