Man dies in Salinas Christmas day crash

A man died after crashing his car into a tree in Salinas early Christmas morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred on Highway 101 when an unidentified man traveling north of John Street veered off the road and collided with a tree. The crash happened around 2:05 a.m. Monday. The 1994 white four door, Acura Integra caught fire and the driver died at the scene.

CHP said they do not know how fast the driver was going, or why he veered off the road.

The identity of the driver will be released through the Monterey County Coroner’s Office.

The fatal accident is under investigation.
