K-9 helps Santa Cruz Police recover drugs at hotel
With the help from a K-9, Santa Cruz Police were able to nab two suspect resisting arrest inside a hotel room and recover several drug items.
According to SCPD, officers from the Neighborhood Enforcement Team responded to complaints about suspicious activity at a hotel room in the 600 block of Riverside Avenue. The 9-1-1 call came in on December 22 around 11 p.m.
When officers arrived at the hotel, they located a suspicious car associated to the hotel room and identified one of the suspects as 32-year-old Sean Oliver. Oliver, a resident of Santa Cruz was found to be on probation.

“When officers knocked on the door to the hotel room, the occupants dead-bolted the door and refused to allow the officers to enter. SCPD officers, with the help from K-9 Luna, forced entry into the hotel room,” said Santa Cruz PD.
Officers arrested Oliver, and 21-year-old Tyler Huffman of Felton. Huffman was also found to be on probation. Both suspects were charged with resisting arrest, obstructing and delaying a peace officer, and probation violation.

During a further investigation officers found the suspects were in possession of methamphetamine, digital scales, and other drug paraphernalia.
“They also disposed of a large quantity of methamphetamine before officers made entry to the hotel room,” said SCPD.
Both Oliver, and Huffman were booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail on several other related charges including maintaining a place where drugs are used and sold, and possession of potentially stolen property with the serial numbers removed.
