Watsonville men arrested for robbery & stabbing at Walgreens parking lot

UPDATE: 12/20/2017 10:53 a.m. Watsonville Police have arrested two men for robbing and stabbing a man at a Walgreens parking lot.

The violent attack occurred on December 14, when suspects 38-year-old Carlos Alvarez and 32-year-old Ariel Ramirez Cruz took the victims backpack and stabbed him at the Walgreens on Freedom Boulevard.

After stabbing the transient, the two suspects fled the scene in an early to mid 2000’s beige GMC or Chevrolet Suburban.

On December 19, WPD followed up on leads and found Alvarez at the Walgreens parking lot where the crime occurred. That same night investigators located Cruz at a Motel 6 parking lot.

“Officers were able to recover valuable items of evidence including some of the victim’s property,” said WPD.

Alvarez and Cruz were booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail.

A Watsonville man was robbed and stabbed at a Walgreen’s parking lot early Thursday morning.

The violent attack occurred around 12:51 a.m. when two suspects approached the 28-year-old transient at the Walgreen’s on Freedom Boulevard. The suspects took the victim’s backpack and stabbed him in the torso.

The two suspects drove off in an early to mid 2000’s beige GMC or Chevrolet Suburban onto Freedom Boulevard.

Officers searched the area but were unable to find the suspects car.

The victim was treated at the scene and later flown to a trauma center for further treatment to his non-life threatening injury.

Officers reviewed surveillance video at the scene and detectives will be following up on any leads.

Police said the victim had been loitering in the parking lot at 1810 Freedom Bl. (Walgreen’s) when the incident occurred.

The victim described the suspects as Hispanic males in their early 20’s and 30’s. If found, the two suspects will be charged with assault with a deadly weapon and armed robbery.
