Santa Cruz Police arrest burglary suspect, seize stolen credit cards, computers & jewelry

A Santa Cruz man familiar to police was arrested over the weekend after officers found the burglary suspect in possession of stolen credit cards and other items.

According to Santa Cruz Police, 41-year-old Jeremy Smith was seen walking through a parking lot around 8 p.m. Saturday(Nov. 25) in the 900 block of Soquel Avenue. Smith was on post release community supervision.

SCPD found Smith in possession of a large box of antique coins and stolen credit cards.

“An investigation into the stolen credit cards revealed that the victim’s residence had been burglarized about a week and a half ago in the Sheriff’s Office jurisdiction. Due to the detailed documentation by the Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Office investigation, members of the Neighborhood Enforcement Team were able to connect the stolen box of coins, multiple computers, jewelry, and other personal belongings to the burglary,” said SCPD spokeperson, Joyce Blaschke.

Smith was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail on multiple felony charges, including possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, possession of personal identification with intent to defraud and a probation violation.
