Working on Thanksgiving Day? You’re not alone..

It’s not uncommon for businesses to be closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday, but that doesn’t go for all of them.

From first responders to gas station or Starbucks employees, more people are finding themselves working.

Medical Assistant, Adrian Ayala, says he expected to be working weekends and Holidays when he got into the medical field, but still misses the family traditions. “Sometimes it is pretty hard. My favorite tradition is we usually play sports, like right now they’re playing soccer and I’m not there,” says Ayala.

Other’s like Miranda Garcia say not being able to meet her family as they come to her house is what she misses the most, “The hardest part is not greeting your family as they’re coming through the door.”

Garcia has worked at Pilot for the past two years, spending most Holidays away from her family. She says her employer makes it easier being at work by providing food and allowing their families to come in.

Ashton Marie, who works at Starbucks says this season brings a bit more stress, but she still enjoys it, “It’s a little harder on holidays, a little bit more tension, but I mean as long as we’re here with a smile on our face it makes anyone’s day better.”
