Small brush fire behind Del Monte Shopping Center

Firefighters raced to extinguish a brush fire behind Del Monte Shopping Center in Monterey.

According to Cal Fire, the hillside at southbound Highway 1 near Soledad Drive caught fire around 1:02 p.m. Friday.

Witnesses reported seeing about 15 people trying to put the flames out before firefighters arrived.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames before 1:30 p.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
